Google ties bonuses to social media.
I imagine it must be pretty scary to have 25% of your bonus tied to your company’s success - but shouldn’t it be? The folks at Google are so smart. They know who their competition is. They put their money where there vision is. They empower their employees to contribute to their own personal financial success. They know that it is not enough to put the pressure on only those employees with direct involvement in the R&D of their own social products. They need ALL of their employees to get behind the effort. They have tens of thousands of employees all over the world. If they can all get their friends and family to use and promote Google’s social products - and so on and so on - that helps, too. It must be great having a clearly stated corporate goal with actionable steps toward that goal that will benefit you financially.
